1999

Defensive strategy won record 7th place in 2nd stage

The two division system was introduced by the J.League in 1999.
The bottom two clubs of J1 would be relegated and replaced by the top two teams of J2 at the end of the season.
Vissel Kobe, under the guidance of new manager Ryoichi Kawakatsu, fielded a strong defence and a high fighting spirit, lifting the team ranking to 12th at the end of the 1st stage, and a best ever 7th in the 2nd stage.
The squad's overall 10th place season finish speaks volumes about the progress.
The Vissel Kobe Youth Team won the J.League Youth Cup.
