Emperor's Cup Semi-finalists. Mr. Kobe capped his last game

Vissel Kobe were able to take the momentum from 1999 into the 1st stage and finished with a 7th place, but ran out of steam and finished 12th in the 2nd stage.
However, a spectacular performance in the Emperor's Cup saw the team make the semi-final for the first time.
2000 also marked the retirement of Akihiro Nagashima, also popularly known as Mr. Kobe, who left the J.League for the JFL to come to Kobe's aid soon after the devastating earthquake - a true hero and legend of Vissel Kobe,Nagashima's last game was against Kyoto at the end of the 2nd stage.
A 1-1 draw sent the match into extra-time and a brilliant header by Nagashima himself grabbed the vital winning goal.
Kazuyoshi Miura, who was on the Kyoto team at the time, would wear the Vissel shirt in 2001.
