2015/5/27 Vissel Kobe 1-2 Shimizu S-Pulse
Vissel Kobe went into this fifth match of their six group games, knowing a win would take them a long way towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the 2015 J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup. But fate was against them.
After Ferrugem had opened the scoring four minutes after half time, the away team hit back with goals in the 69th and 77th minutes, to take all three points.
Vissel were - as has been the case all season - without players due to injury. In particular Takahito Soma was still out, and, although Michihiro Yasuda was finally deemed fit for selection, Ryo Okui continued to fill in on the left. Yasuda did make an appearance in the second half, welcome back Michi!
Kunie Kitamoto, who has been filling in at centre back admirably with all the injuries, had fallen to the curse himself and so Jung Woo Young was back in the centre of the defence, and the key defensive midfield role was given to young Ryosuke Maeda.
The game began well for the home team, Kazuma Watanabe got on the end of a Jung free kick early on but saw his header clear the bar before the same player tried to lob the keeper in the 26th minute, the S-Pulse custodian just getting a hand to the ball to deny Watanabe the opening goal.
Pedro Junior then did the hard work - running, controlling the pass, creating the space - before hitting his shot across the goal when seemingly easier to hit the target.
The opener finally came when Pedro Junior found Ryota Morioka with a cross field pass. The keeper advanced and Morioka unselfishly slipped the ball aside for Ferrugem to finish into the open goal.
The Brazilian goalscorer then showed defensive prowess when he cleared the ball off the line but the goals were coming for S-Pulse, although it took a badly misplaced pass from Takuya Iwanami to create the chance, and then a deflection off Takahiro Masukawa to allow Yoshiaki Takagi to beat Kaito Yamamoto in the home goal.
To add insult to injury, Sho Kagami's header for the winning goal also took a deflection to loop over Yamamoto as S-Pulse rode their luck and took away the points.
Team - Yamamoto, Iwanami, Jung, Masukawa (Ogawa, 79), Shu.Takahashi (Sho.Takahashi, 46), Maeda (Yasuda, 46), Morioka, Okui, Ferrugem, Watanabe, Pedro Junior
