2015/10/14 Vissel Kobe 1-0 JEF United
Vissel Kobe qualified for around 4 of the Emperor's Cup with a 1-0 win over J2 promotion hopefuls JEF United, the single goal coming from Kazuma Watanabe. The draw for round 4 will take place on October 22nd, when the club will find out who they are up against in their quest for cup glory.
Vissel were rarely in danger and really should have tied up the game well before the 90 minutes were up, but had to thank Watanabe's strike for the win in the end.
The game began well for the home team with Morioka stinging the keeper's palms with a wicked, dipping stinger of a shot as the clock hit five minutes, but Vissel struggled to put any final touch on all their possession until close to the break.
As half time approached a nice passing move set Michihiro Yasuda free on the left and he pulled the ball back from the line for Watanabe but the keeper got a hand to the close range shot to foil Vissel's number 19.
Watanabe did manage to open the scoring though, a minute later, just as the match seemed as if it would remain scoreless into the break, out-muscling his attending defender to volley home a bouncing ball from 16 yards a minute before the half time whistle.
Despite some spirited JEF attacking n the second half the Vissel goal was never really threatened and the team played out the remaining 45 minutes without too much urgency, perhaps conserving energy for the weekend's J1 match. With Jung Woo-young expected to return - he watched from the stand tonight - there'll be a little more bite in central midfield, but the team will still be without many regulars as their inconsistent J1 season heads to a close.
Team - Tokushige, Iwanami, Mihara, Sho.Takahashi, Shu.Takahashi (Soma, 73), Yasuda, Tanaka (Masuyama, 67), Maeda, Morioka, Ishizu (Kitamoto, 78), Watanabe
