2015/11/14 Vissel Kobe 1-0 Yokohama F.Marinos
Vissel Kobe made their deserved way through to the last eight of the Emperor's Cup, for the first time in twelve years, progressing on a gem of a goal from Ryota Morioka in the 70th minute.
Vissel manager Nelsinho gave youngster So Fujitani the start at right back, while Ryosuke Maeda partnered Hideo Tanaka in the middle of the park, just behind Morioka.
The match began openly, with both teams creating chances but both teams wasteful as Ademilson and Manabu Saito wasted opportunities for the away team while Pedro Junior and Daisuke Ishizu were profligate at the other end. Yuta Mikado hit the bar for F?Marinos, although Vissel keeper seemed to think he had it covered and had let it go past him - risky!
Maeda then shot straight at the F?Marinos keeper in the 34th minute as the game headed to a scoreless break. It was Saito's turn to shoot straight at the man in goal as the second half got underway and Ademilson really should have scored as he latched on to a bouncing ball with the keeper advancing. Sadly, for the fans behind the goal, the Brazilian popped it straight into the keeper's hands.
Morioka's brilliant breakthrough came in the 75th minute. He took a pass from Ishizu and ran at the defence. The number 10 beat one man, rounded a second - many other players may well have gone down as the despairing tackle came in but Morioka hurdled it, kept the ball, picked his spot and there was no stopping the shot. An excellent goal to qualify for a quarter final!
Vissel's reward for this win is a Last 8 tie against Urawa Reds - venue to be announced - on December 26th.
