2015/11/22 Urawa Reds 5-2 Vissel Kobe

Urawa Reds got off to a great start against Vissel Kobe in this match, with three early goals, but then strikes from Ryota Morioka and Daisuke Ishizu brought the away team back into the match before Reds went further ahead to clinch the game as Vissel looked for goals, leaving gaps to be exploited.

Yuki Muto opened the scoring in the 2nd minute in somewhat fortunate circumstances, scrambling in a low cross from close range after the low cross from the right somehow found its way through teenager So Fujitani.

Moments later Kazuma Watanabe rounded Reds' keeper Shusaki Nishikawa, who had come well outside his area, and was taken down, denying Vissel an equaliser. A defining moment of the game, perhaps? Nishikawa received only a yellow card and minutes later Reds were 2-0 up as Toshiyuki Takagi broke and Tadanari Lee overtook him at speed, received the pass and slotted it home.

While the first two goals had both come from Vissel defenders failing to make contact with a simple interception, the third came through a slick passing move that Yosuke Kashiwagi ended with a simple finish. 13 minutes, 3-0 down. Vissel manager replaced a centre back - Kunie Kitamoto - and switched formations, bringing on Ryosuke Maeda in the 15th minute.

Ishizu then gave the away fans some hope with a goal of the month contender. Exchanged passes, intelligent running and a superb long distance finish that cut the home defence to ribbons made it 3-1, less than half an hour played. But the hope was short-lived and, even though Vissel matched their hosts in goal attempts, corners and possession, chasing the game left gaps and out the defence under more pressure and Takuya Aoki (77 minutes) and Tsukasa Umesaki on 84 minutes put Reds back in control after Morioka had brought the score back to 3-2 just after the hour mark.

Vissel end the J1 2nd Stage in 13th position, 12th in the overall season table, after three losses in the last five games. Room for improvement in 2016!
