Vissel Kobe 2-4 Shimizu S-Pulse

Vissel Kobe were taken apart by a spirited Shimizu S-Pulse in their first home J1 match of the season. Goals from Junya Tanaka - with a simple header just after the half hour mark to bring the home team back into the game at 1-2 at the time - and a 69th screaming free kick from Jung Woo-young - were not enough in this match. Jung's free kick brought the home team back into the match at 2-2, but any hope gained from that was short-lived as S-Pulse went ahead again three minutes later, then finished off the scoring with eight minutes to go in regulation time.

The line-up included Keijiro Ogawa starting at right back, but he looked somewhat out of place as attack after attack came down the left to take advantage of his unfamiliarity with the position. Wellington came on for Hashimoto in the 62nd minute to shift the home team's formation to a more attacking one, while Ogawa was finally replaced by Shunki Takahashi in the 77th minute, when Kazuma Watanabe also came on in place of Havenaar. But, despite coming back from two goals down, Vissel succumbed to the attacking waves of their visitors and couldn't send the majority of the excellent 24,000+ crowd home happy today.

Team - Kim, Ogawa (Takahashi, 77), Inoha, H.Watanabe, Hashimoto (Wellington, 62), Jung, Mita, Matsushita, Podolski, Tanaka, Havenaar (Watanabe, 77)

Goals: Tanaka (32'), Jung (69').
Attendance: 24,058
