2018/3/18 Vissel Kobe 2-0 Cerezo Osaka
Vissel Kobe 2-0 Cerezo Osaka
Vissel Kobe took on their Kansai rivals in the 4th match of the 2018 J1 campaign and left Noevir Stadium with a richly-deserved three points after goals from Naoyuki Fujita and Lukas Podolski had given the hosts the win.
Vissel manager Takayuki Yoshida rang the changes, keeping Yuta Goke in the side after his impressive Levain Cup performance, as well as starting Shuhei Otsuki and placing Jung Woo-young at centre back to add a little steel back there.
The home team came close to opening the scoring in the 14th minute when a Junya Tanaka glancing header, from a Wataru Hashimoto cross slipped just past the post and Vissel continued to pressure the away goal with shots from Podolski flying just wide and then a far post header from Goke missing the target by a foot or so. The goal was finally breached after Otsuki got the left wing cross in after getting the better of Riku Matsuda at right back. The cross was headed clear but Fujita volleyed back across the 'keeper and into the bottom of the far corner. 1-0 at the break!
The boys in crimson took up where they left half before the half time whistle and were soon creating chances again. The 57th minute saw a pinpoint Podolski pass find Tanaka behind the defence. His superb control gave him space but then his shot was straight at the out-rushing 'keeper and it remained 1-0.Ten minutes later and another move, again involving Podolski found Fujita in the area but he shot wide. But that second goal finally came in the shape of the German World Cup winner as he raced clear onto a deep pass, but then was allowed to cut inside to that famous left foot and the rest is history. Vissel 2-0 Cerezo!
