Yokohama F.Marinos 4-2 Vissel Kobe [YBC Levain Cup Play-Off 1st Leg]
Vissel Kobe went down to an away defeat in the 1st Leg of this 2018 Levain Cup tie, but came back with two away goals and will need a 2-0 win next week in order to go through to the next round.
Wellington - in rich form recently - headed home a Naoyuki Fujita free kick in the 8th minute to give the away team the lead. A powerful header as the big forward rose between two defenders showed the Vissel Kobe manager Takayuki Yoshida, that he may have a very nice selection problem once all his players are fit and / or available. Lukas Podolski and, of course, Andres Iniesta to fit in the team somewhere must be an enviable position to be in!
The home team equalised when Yuki Otsu - in a suspiciously offside position - latched on to a long ball, took it forward then rolled it past the 'keeper from an angle. 1-1, 23 minutes, F.Marinos then went ahead through Teruhito Nakagawa after goalscorer Wellington gave the ball away in his own half and the YFM player kept his composure through a couple of challenges to find the space to slot home. 2-1, 30 minutes, 2-1 at the break.
10 minutes after the restart Kazuma Watanabe headed home a corner to get Vissel back on level terms but it was not to stay 2-2 with Jun Amano slotting home from the edge of the area after the pull back into his path by Nakagawa, 3-2, 69 minutes.
The scoring was rounded out by Hugo Vieira - at least that is who the J.League have credited the goal to, somehow - when the player skipped through two challenges with some fancy footwork before hitting a deft chip against the post. Sadly for Vissel, and Kunie Kitamoto, who was running in to cover admirably, the ball came off the post and went in off the helpless defender. 4-2 and onto the 2nd leg on June 9th.
