Vissel moved on through to the Emperor's Cup 4th round, and a tie with Sagan Tosu on August 22nd with a thrashing of JEF United Chiba in Round 3. Youngster Takuya Yasui opened the scoring just after the half hour mark, before Wellington added his first of the game five minutes later. By the time the half time whistle came Hirotaka Mita had scored his first of the game and it was 3-0 at the break.

Mita added his second of the game 11 minutes after the break to make it 4-0 and then Shuhei Otsuki made it 5-0 in the 74th minute before the hosts finally got on the scoreboard through Hiroshi Ibusuki to grab the consolation goal, but the scoring was not over as Wellington added his personal second and Vissel's sixth goal in added time to take Vissel to 6-1 win and into the last 16.
