Vissel Kobe 0-2 Yokohama F.Marinos
How Vissel Kobe came out of this match with a 2-0 defeat is anyone's guess. The away team were closed down when attacking and chances were created by Vissel's midfield, only for them to be wasted time and time again. The guile of Andres Iniesta and the experience of Lukas Podolski worked well to create space, and those chances, for the home team, but they were not taken advantage of, the attacking part of the team seeing some bad luck - and bad finishing - thwart them time and again. When Shun Nagasawa replaced Wellington for the last 20 minutes of the game, the former Gamba Osaka forward continued where the rest of his team left off and proceeded to somehow miss a superb chance created by Iniesta's pass, and then a header that had the fans behind the goal about to celebrate before the lanky striker put it wide.
Suffice to say that this really should have been Vissel's three points with ease but Yokohama F•Marinos weathered the storm and then managed to open the scoring on a quick break, started and finished by 17-year-old Takefusa Kubo - so the headlines were made even before the end of the match. It was a crisp, left-footed half volley that bounced in off a post that broke the hearts of the Vissel Kobe fans and then, to add insult to injury Turuhito Nakagara pounced on a half-cleared ball after a mix-up between Masatoshi Mihara and goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu to blast into an empty net to seal the match in the visitors' favour with five minutes to go.
Team - Kim, Mihara, Osaki, Yasser, Hashimoto (Theerathon, 46), Mita, Fujita, Iniesta, Podolski, Goke (Tanaka, 76), Wellington (Nagasawa, 70)
