Kawasaki Frontale 5-3 Vissel Kobe
Vissel went into this game against league leaders Kawasaki Frontale with a rotated line-up - through necessity, Theerathon and Masatoshi Mihara being suspended - and choice - Hirofumi Watanabe left on the bench, with Daisuke Nasu making a rare start. Away, at the leaders of the league, with players missing... and then a goal down to a very debatable penalty decision 13 minutes in - nwas ot the best start. Yu Kobayashi dispatched the PK after referee Yuichi Mishimura had confounded most of those present in the stadium - both home and away fans included) and Vissel were 1-0 down against the run of play.
But the cream rose to the top after that early setback and an own goal after sustained pressure, a superb strike worthy of any goal-of-the-month competition from Kyogo Furuhashi, and a classy Hirotaka Mita shot saw Vissel go in worthy leaders at half time, leading 3-2, as Akihiri Ienaga had pulled one back for the hosts just before the break.
But it all went wrong in the 2nd half. or, perhaps, that should say it all went right for Frontale. All they touched turned to gold and they strung passes together, worked hard all over the field and, most of all, took the chances they created to strike three times in the second period to give them the points, and go clear at the top of J1.
Good news from this game for Vissel fans? Andres Iniesta played the full 90 minutes, the goals of Furuhashi and Mita were class and the travelling support was superb throughout the match. Never the less, a win is need in the next match to ensure this team does not drop into the relegation battle in the final matches!
