Welcome to Vissel Kobe - David Villa
VIssel Kobe announced, on December 1st, the signing of former Spain international David Villa from USA's MLS team New York City. Villa is an experienced international who will add firepower to the Vissel Kobe team that already boasts Lukas Podolski and Andres Iniesta, as it takes another step towards the club’s goal of becoming the number one club in Asia.
Villa was leading scorer in both the 2008 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup. He is the all-time leading goal-scorer for the Spanish national team, with a total of 59 goals in 98 matches.
The player visited Japan in 2011 for the Club World Cup with Barcelona, but broke his leg in a game against Al Sadd, an injury which led to him missing the entire 2011-12 season with both Barcelona and the Spanish football team, who were hoping to use him at the European Championships 2012.
Villa turned 37 years-old on December 3rd and will join the squad for pre-season training for the J.League 2019 campaign.
